This is it! No pulling out now. Arrived at Saint Jean Pied de Port the starting point for the Camino De Santiago, The French Route. Staying at a lovely Abergue called Albergue Du Pelerin.
Strange journey today ......left Paris by fast train to Bayonne where we changed trains onto a train they must have pulled out of the museum it rattled and shake and smelt mouldy, about an hour until we arrived and Bordour where we encountered our first peregrino (Pelegrino is what walker's walking the Camino are affectionately called). It was a surreal few hours waiting for the train to take us up through the mountain to St Jean Pied de Port. Every person that came into the small cafe at the train station was carrying some sort of backpack. They were all here to do what we had come to do. All proudly exhibiting their scallop shell on the outside of their pack.
NB The scallop shell is used as a way to identify people that are walking the pilgrimage.
