Doing the big push yesterday meant we were about 10km further than we had planned, which meant that today was going to be an easy 25km on flat ground. We had planned to stay in a hut tonight, so we didnt want to get there to early as there would be nothing to do. So a leisurely start to the day was in order, breakfast and morning tea at Macca’s . Departing to start walking until 11.30. Then stopped about 1.30 for lunch. To land us at the hut around 4.30pm just enough time to clean up have dinner and take in the beautiful surrounds before hoping in our bivvy bags and sleep.
Perfect. As was todays walk beautiful relaxed country road with a beautiful river following us the whole journey. When we reached the Henro Hut we where so delighted situated roadside with the river flowing along side., an outdoor shower, toilet and a hut with a raised platform for sleeping. Thank you Kobo Daishi.
Although today was an easy walk my body didnt feel like it. Everything hurt, now I know yesterday was a big day but I think it was more than that. I think I hadn’t prepared for the day mentally , I always struggle with late starts, , by lunch time I like to have a good portion of our walking done. This always makes me feel like I have achieved something, the late start meant that by lunch time we had only covered about 8 of the 25km. So my head wasn’t in the game, leaving my body to dictate my mood. Walking is a relatively easy thing to do most people can do it, but when walking long distances it is a very mental game, that you have to consciously be aware of. Today was a reminder to me to stay on my game.
