NZ DAY 31
WHANGAMARINO WETLAND TRACK: Mercer to Rangiriri 26KM (Total KM's walked 563)
What a gorgeous walk today. We followed the Waikato River all day. The track was very over grown but doable. There was also a long stretch on stock bank which was really hard on the ankles due to the ground being muddy a few days ago, cattle walking on it, then it drying out. Very hard to walk on. Unfortunately due to the track being overgrown and walking through long grass my legs have flared up they look like I have meningococcal.
Tonight we are camping at the back of a bakery the deal for TA walkers was buy a pie for $15 and you can camp for nothing. The pie was amazing worth a side trip if you ever in NZ it’s the Rangariri Pie Shop . The only bathroom facilities available here is an automatic toilet on the freeway. So I pop into the toilet, strip and start to give myself a sink wash, when the bloody toilet speaker announces that I have 2 minutes until the door will automatically open. The door opens up straight onto the main road coming into town.......you have never seen me to get dress so quick.
HIGHLIGHT: The scenery
LOWLIGHT: My legs at the end of the day
Today I am truely grateful for the track, walking along the side of the river seeing things that few people see, is a a privilege. I'm grateful for antihistamine to quieter down my burning itchy legs. Im grateful for the pie shop and my yummy pie I had for dinner.
